Iron Will offers five ultralight hunting knives: the K1 Sharp Top, the K1 Grip Top, the K2 Skinning Knife, the K3 Boning & Fillet Knife, and the K4 Caping & Boning Knife.

All Iron Will knives are ultralight, with the skeleton versions (without handles) weighing about one ounce, and the versions with handles weighing about 1.5 ounces. That's less than half the weight of many hunting knives of similar size.

These knives feature .062" thick A2 Tool Steel, cryogenically treated and triple tempered to 60 Rockwell C—the same steel used in our premium broadhead blades. Each ultralight knife is available in either natural steel or a durable black ceramic coating.

K1 Ultralight Hunting Knife

The first knife designed by Iron Will was the K1 Sharp Top. This knife was created to get through multiple animals in the backcountry with minimal weight and minimal touch-ups required. It features an approximately 3-inch blade with a saber grind, leaving the thickness behind the edge at just .016". That makes it easier to cut with less force and easier to resharpen when touch-ups are needed.

The K1's unique feature is its sharpened top edge. The purpose of that edge is to make hide cuts. Cutting through hair and hide can quickly dull a knife. By using a separate edge for those cuts, it's almost like having two knives in one. By making all your hide cuts with the top edge, the belly of the knife stays sharp much longer for skinning and deboning.

The knife features jimping along the spine and a thumb stop at the front, allowing you to place your thumb forward without it sliding onto the sharpened top edge. That puts you in a strong position to make hide-entry cuts. Whether you're opening the legs, cutting up the spine, or making other hide cuts, using the top edge in this position provides excellent control.

The K1 Grip Top is an identical knife, except it doesn't have the sharpened top edge. Instead, it features two sets of jimping—one near the handle and one closer to the tip—for hunters who prefer to run their index finger farther forward on the blade.

Either the K1 Sharp Top or the K1 Grip Top makes an excellent hunting knife and a great knife to have around camp.

K2 Ultralight Skinning Knife

The Iron Will K2 was designed specifically around skinning. Its wide blade and sweeping radius make it ideal for removing hide without a sharp point that could accidentally puncture the animal.

The K2 is designed to be held in multiple positions for precise control. A hole through the blade allows you to confidently choke up close to the edge for even greater control. If your hands become tired, wet, or slippery, the K2 remains extremely comfortable and secure to hold.

Many bowhunters really like the shape of this knife and the finger hole through the blade and will even use it to field dress an entire animal. Personally, we prefer it for ensuring we don't accidentally poke holes in a cape while skinning.

K3 Ultralight Boning & Fillet Knife

Next in the ultralight lineup is the K3 Boning & Fillet Knife. While all of our other knives are sharpened to 19 degrees per side, the K3 is sharpened to 15 degrees per side, making it exceptionally sharp and requiring minimal force to cut through meat.

Our cryogenically treated and triple tempered A2 Tool Steel offers excellent toughness. Even at 60 Rockwell C hardness, the K3 maintains outstanding flexibility because of that toughness.

The K3 features a 5-inch blade, making it ideal for working through larger cuts of meat from animals such as elk or moose. It's an excellent knife for deboning meat or filleting fish in the backcountry. Some outfitters even prefer to use the K3 for everything—from skinning and quartering to deboning.

K4 Ultralight Caping & Boning Knife

The newest addition to the lineup is the K4. It was originally designed as a caping knife and features a very fine point that's sharpened on both the top and bottom right at the tip. This makes it ideal for detailed work around tear ducts on deer and elk, as well as removing hide around the antler burr.

Unlike our other knives, the K4 does not feature a saber grind. Instead, it maintains nearly full blade thickness all the way to the tip, making it exceptionally stiff. Many hunters prefer a stiff knife for caping, while others appreciate the straight spine and rigidity when deboning.

The stiff, razor-sharp point also works extremely well for cutting tough leg tendons and separating joints. The main blade measures approximately 3.5 inches long—about half an inch longer than the K1—making it an excellent all-around knife for hunters who prefer a slightly longer blade.

With the ultralight weight of these knives, you can carry two Iron Will knives and still have less total weight than many standard hunting knives. Many hunters choose to carry a K1 alongside a K2 Skinning Knife or one of our boning knives for a lightweight, highly capable field system.
